31 Rue Cambon is a chypre (which is a fragrance based on the
interplay of citrus, floral, wood, moss, amber and musk notes usually with
oakmoss in the base). This chypre uses
several varieties of patchouli instead of the usual heavy and sometimes bitter
oakmoss.
31 Rue Cambon is a g-g-g-gorgeous fragrance. It’s decidedly sophisticated and classy, not
edgy or particularly unusual, but you will feel unusually elegant while wearing
it.
31 opens with a burst of bergamot, followed by a
peppery-iris, and finally an ambery-patchouli-woody base. 31 doesn’t just dry down and stay there, but
instead stays in motion, always peeking at you from different angles inside the
perfume. A note: 31 Rue Cambon is best when applied lavishly and with
a sprayer/atomizer. I first tried it
from a small vial and dabbed it on – I liked it, but it was much more
impressive when I later purchased the bottle and was able to spray it on
liberally. The concentration is eau de
toilette and it is true to an old fashioned edt which is meant to be sprayed
all over, almost like a body spray.
